Nelson-Jameson, a leading distributor in the food processing industry, has announced Jenessa Gil as the 2026 winner of its “Golden Rule” college scholarship program through the Nelson-Jameson Foundation (NJF). Gil will be awarded the scholarship toward her college expenses.
Jenessa will be attending Boise State University in the fall to study Elementary Education. Her father, Erik Gil, is a Service Maintenance Tech for Service and Repair at the company's Jerome location.
In selecting Gil, judges highlighted her character, stating that she "exhibits a clear understanding of living by the Golden Rule – realizing that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference".
The Nelson-Jameson Foundation’s Scholarship Program provides family members of Nelson-Jameson employees the opportunity to apply for scholarships at accredited two-year or four-year colleges. As part of the application process, students are required to include an essay outlining ways that they live by the principles of Nelson-Jameson’s “Golden Rule” culture – a focus on maintaining a culture of honesty, integrity, and kindness, with a commitment to operating ethically with respect for people, the community, and the environment.
Amanda Nelson Sasse, President of the Nelson-Jameson Foundation, added that the scholarship is designed to reflect the company’s family values.
"Having been a family-owned company for almost 80 years, the 'Golden Rule' scholarship is one of the important ways in which we extend our strong sense of family culture to our team and their families. Empowering our next generation of leaders by providing opportunities to make higher education more accessible is a privilege for which we are profoundly grateful," she said.
