This project builds upon a significant cold chain infrastructure rollout for the company.
MARSHFIELD, Wis. - October 1, 2026 | Nelson-Jameson, a leading distributor in the food processing industry, has announced a continuation of its investment with additional cold storage and logistics capabilities added at its Turlock, California, distribution center. This expansion is designed for optimized operational servicing, more robust inventory levels, reduced transit times, and streamlined deliveries for dairy producers across the West Coast. This project builds upon a cold chain infrastructure rollout at the company’s Fairview, Pennsylvania, distribution center in April.
Direct distribution from Turlock overcomes significant logistical hurdles associated with shipping cold-chain products over long distances. To safeguard sensitive materials from heat, the Turlock facility features specialized ultra-low-temperature cold storage maintained at -60°C (-76°F). This ultra-cold capacity is specifically tailored for specialized cultures used in cheese manufacturing and fresh dairy products, such as those distributed through the company's relationship with dsm-firmenich.
Establishing localized storage in California delivers substantial operational and environmental benefits, including shorter lead times, reduced time-in-transit, decreased reliance on third-party carriers, and lower product spoilage rates. Regional distribution also significantly decreases dry ice consumption while improving reliability through dedicated Nelson-Jameson and NEXT Logistics delivery routes. These benefits align with Nelson-Jameson’s commitment to our Corporate Responsibility strategies.
"This investment in Turlock represents a vital step in aligning our infrastructure directly with our West Coast customer needs," said Brian Hanson, Director of Operations - West. "By establishing these capabilities in California, we are eliminating transit vulnerabilities, protecting product quality, and ensuring West Coast dairy processors receive the reliable service they count on."
The Turlock site represents the next phase of a multi-region growth trajectory connecting operations from Fairview to Turlock, with plans to add culture storage in Jerome, Idaho, in the near future. The addition to the Idaho facility will serve customers across Idaho, Utah, and the Pacific Northwest, expanding regional capacity and capability.
All Nelson-Jameson distribution centers operate as state-registered food warehouses and adhere to FSMA, GFSI, FDA, and USDA compliance standards. The California facility receives annual Safe Quality Food (SQF) audits, demonstrating adherence to strict food safety protocols, as Nelson-Jameson provides ingredients designed to help dairy processors achieve optimal quality, taste, and texture. Our Turlock location has achieved a 100% score on our SQF audit for 10 consecutive years.
